Msgr. Henchal grew up in the Portland area and attended Cheverus High School. He did his seminary preparation at St. Paul's Seminary/University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada; and the North American College, Rome, Italy. He was ordained in 1973. After ordination, he completed studies in Liturgy and Canon (Church) Law at The Catholic University, Washington, D.C. He has served in a number of parishes in Maine and was a member of the Bishop's staff from 1989-1997. He was assigned as Pastor of St. Bartholomew Parish, Cape Elizabeth, in 1997. In 2006, the Bishop added St. Maximilian Kolbe, Scarborough, to his assignment. And in 2008, he was given the responsibility for St. John and Holy Cross Partishes, in South Portland. In 2004, he was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Portland, a position he continues to hold.
