Youth Choir - Grades 1 - 6
The Youth Choir consists of grades 1 - 6. Its purpose is to instill the joy of singing at Mass. Through song, young people are given a very real way of expressing their praise to God, while ministering to the congregation and learning about liturgy.
The Worship Choir is a seasonal group of singers who enjoy music and who minister as a choral ensemble within the assembly. Membership is open to all youth (high school) and adults regardless of musical training. Regular attendance at rehearsals and liturgies is expected however. The singers "lead the song" at the 9:00AM Sunday Mass during Advent and Lent and also sing on Christmas Eve and during the Triduum.
The 9AM singers are a small group leading the sung praise. This group is not the adult choir, but rather a group of faith-filled parishioners who love to sing, but do not attend organized rehearsals. We meet ½ hour before Mass to review the music to be sung during the liturgy. This group has a long and faithful history of ministering to our assembly. Everyone is welcomed and invited to join even on a drop-in basis.
The Cantor / Songleader is a person of faith dedicated to the ongoing study and awareness of the message of scripture expressed through song. Further, the cantor should have an understanding of the balance needed between prayerful presence and the enthusiasm of sung praise. Through their leadership the community of faith is guided to a sacred place of prayer. An apprenticeship program is available to anyone interested in becoming a cantor. This group of singers offers the consolation of song at Funeral Liturgies. This ministry is invaluable to families at their time of loss. The faith community of St. Bartholomew can be a source of support and healing through sacred song offered at Mass. We practice prior to the funeral, and usually sing known hymns in unison. All that is required is an on-call list of compassionate singers.
The Brethren and The Sisterhood
These two groups are what we lovingly refer to as “sprint singers”. These men and women respectively, have three rehearsals and then one Sunday Mass. They sing on special feast days during the year. For example, The Brethren usually sing on Pentecost and the Feast of Christ the King; The Sisterhood offers their song on July 4th and the Feast of the Assumption. These short sessions keep the music ministry active during Ordinary Time and offer an alternative to those who are not able to make the greater commitment to the Worship Choir.
Instrumentalists are always invited and welcomed every Sunday or on special Holy Days. Rehearsals can be arranged on an individual basis.
Any person interested in becoming involved with the Music Ministry should contact the music minister.
